Dorothy was born on the farm on May 26,1924 to Clarence and Sarah (Jensen) Rasmussen in Turner County southwest of Parker, SD. Although she was an only child, she was surrounded by her Jensen cousins who in many ways functioned as her brothers and sisters. She would go to country school, be confirmed in Bethany Lutheran Church and graduate from Parker High School in 1942 where she was homecoming queen.
After graduation she attended Augustana College majoring in music and there she would be homecoming queen. It was at Augustana that she roomed with Grace Grinager who would introduce her to younger brother, Lloyd. Dorothy and Lloyd married on June 20, 1946 after he returned from the army.
The young couple moved to Naperville, Ill. for a year before returning to Sioux Falls where Lloyd would attend Augustana and serve as a student pastor at the Harrisburg Methodist Church. During their time in Sioux Falls, their first child, Howard was born.
Upon Lloyd’s graduation, the couple moved to New Jersey and New York while Lloyd attended seminary. During that time, Christine and John were born. Upon graduation, the family returned to Sioux Falls where Lloyd would serve Asbury Methodist Church and Dorothy had their her fourth child, Eric. Dorothy would recall that aside from singing in the church choir, all she had time for was taking care of her four children and husband. From Sioux Falls the family moved first to Milbank where Dorothy taught voice and piano and then to Pierre. There the last of the children, Donn, was born. From Pierre the family moved to Rapid City and Dorothy became a foster parent to newborn babies and a substitute teacher. The family then would move to Yankton and then to Mitchell. In Mitchell Dorothy became more involved in United Methodist Women, and continued to substitute teach. The family’s final move would take them back once more to Sioux Falls. There after Lloyd’s death in 1987, Dorothy served as a parish visitor at Wesley United Methodist Church. She also became active in missions spending time working at the McKirdy Mission School, serving on the National Board of the United Methodist Women, and the Board of Directors at Dakota Weslyn.
In 2003, Warren Lindbloom, a college classmate, reentered Dorothy’s life and after a short time of dating, they would marry on July 5, 2003. They spent their time in Denver, Tampa Bay, and Sioux Falls. They greatly enjoyed their almost 15 years together.
