James G. Weiland, 64, Sioux Falls died Friday, July 26, 2013 from brain cancer at home surrounded by his family and friends. Memorial services will be at 1:00pm Saturday, August 3, 2013 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 4900 West 49th Street, Sioux Falls, SD. James Gordon Weiland was born August 7, 1948 in Sioux Falls, SD to Bill and Dorothy Weiland. In 1966 he graduated from Parker High School. He attended Southern State Teachers College in 1967. In January 13, 1973 he was united in marriage to Barbara Nold. This past year they were able to celebrate their 40th Anniversary. Together, they raised three children. Jim worked in the electrical field for forty years, the last thirty four was with the local Union in Sioux Falls. He was admired for his great work ethic. Many of his peers that he worked with expressed how patient and compassionate he was as he taught others how to treat one another. He mentored so many of his workmates who were endeared to him . On August 18, 1974 Jim was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. For a number of years he served as a loving shepherd in the Sioux Falls congregation. His love for God showed in the kind manner that he treated others and in always putting the needs of his family and friends ahead of his own. His love and humility was undeniable. He loved life, the outdoors, whether it was hunting, fishing, cruising in his mustang or watching a Packers game, his best times were always enjoyed with dear friends and family. Even at the end he kept his humor, strength and courage knowing his hope was sure in God's promises for the future. Jim leaves behind his wife Barbara; two sons, Eric (Tina) Weiland of Spearfish, SD; Blake (Sonia) Weiland of Harrisburg, SD; one daughter, Heather Weiland-Redgrave (Brandon) of Cypress,Texas: Six grandchildren; Lexi, Jacob, Ethan, Tanner, Brooklyn and Kale; a brother, Kent Weiland of Trout Run, Pennsylvania, two sisters; Marilyn, (Larry) Ortman of San Juan Capistrano, CA; Patricia (Gary) Marso of Sioux Falls, SD; three aunts and a host of friends. Jim is preceded in death by his parents Bill and Dorothy (Kirschenman) Weiland. Jim will be remembered by his family as a loving husband and father. He will be remembered as a caring friend and as a loyal, loving servant by his God Jehovah .
