Gwen L. Dains, 78, died Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at the Tieszen Memorial Home, Marion. Funeral mass will be at 10:30am Monday, March 28, 2011 at St. Marys Catholic Church, Marion with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-4:00pm Sunday in the chapel of Tieszen Memorial Home, Marion with a Prayer Service to be said at 7:00pm Sunday evening at the church. Gwendolyn Lucille (Likness) Dains was born March 8, 1933 in Langford, South Dakota to Gerda M Likness. She grew up in Langford and graduated from Langford High School in 1951. She attended Northern State College in Aberdeen where she received her teaching certificate. Her first teaching position was in Marion, South Dakota. On June 8, 1956 she was united in marriage to Donald Dains at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. They made their home and raised their children in Marion. She served as choir director at St Mary’s for many years and was an active member and officer of the Catholic Daughters of America. She later returned to teaching where she served as a substitute teacher for the Marion school district. Throughout her life she enjoyed family, especially her grandchildren, friends, music, cooking and gardening. She leaves behind a legacy of care giving. Grateful for having shared her life are 4 children, Darcee (Joe) Huber, Alexandria, VA, Melissa Kuronen, Brooklyn, New York, Kevin Dains, Overland Park, KS, Karen (Scott) McPherson, Edina, MN and 7 grandsons. She was preceded in death by her mother and husband.
