John Leroy Noordsy was born June 6, 1922 to William and Corrina (Meiras) Noordsy on the family farm 4 miles west of Monroe, SD. He attended grade school at Wayside Elementary and graduated from Monroe High School in 1940. He received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Kansas State College of Veterinary Medicine in 1946. On April 1, 1945 he was united in marriage to Patricia Lee Rose in Topeka, KS. To this union three children were born, Tom, Jill, and Terry. Dr. Noordsy engaged in the practice of veterinary medicine in South Dakota until 1960, with 13 years spent in practice at Marion, SD. From 1960 until his retirement in 1990, John was a teacher on the faculty of the College of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University, Manhattan, KS. The family resided in Manhattan until John and Pat moved to the Trail Ridge retirement community in Sioux Falls, SD in 2007. They had recently moved to the long-term care facility at the Tieszen Memorial Home, Marion. Dr. Noordsy thoroughly enjoyed his career in veterinary medicine, both as a food animal practitioner in South Dakota and as a well respected surgeon and professor of large animal surgery at Kansas State. He was very appreciative of all the friends he had made over the years, be they neighbors, clients, students or professional counterparts. He was also very thankful for the fine nursing care he received at the Trail Ridge Assisted Living and the Tieszen Memorial Home. Over the years, his church homes have been Sandham Reformed Church of Monroe, Emmanuel Presbyterian Church of Marion, and the First Presbyterian Church of Manhattan, KS. He was a devoted member of the Presbyterian faith and followed it’s teachings throughout his life.
