Leland Kasten

Leland Kasten, 90, died Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at the Sanford Hospice Cottage, Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be at 2:00pm Friday, December 23, 2011 at the United Methodist Church, Parker with burial in Rosehill Cemetery, Parker. Visitation will begin at noon Thursday at Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home, Parker with family present from 6-8:00pm. Leland Kasten was born on December 4, 1921 near Parker, SD to Bernhart and Lydia (Michael) Kasten. He grew up near Parker where he graduated from Parker High School in 1939. On May 29, 1947 he was united in marriage to Arlene Benney at the Methodist Church in Parker. He farmed his entire life. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Wellington Township Board for 49 years, Farmers Union Coop Board, and a 4-H Dairy Club leader for many years. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Arlene; son Phil (Kay), Parker; 2 daughters, Marjorie (Glen) Wollman, Freeman, and Carol (Curt) Rasmussen, Lucan, MN; 2 grandchildren, Christopher and Erinn; and a brother Loren, Mitchell. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son Godfrey John, and a brother and sister.
