Gertrude Griebel

April 2, 1925 — January 19, 2012

Gertrude Griebel, 86, died Thursday, January 19, 2012 at the Tieszen Memorial Nursing Home, Marion. Funeral services will be at 10:00am Monday, January 23, 2012 at the Calvary Reformed Church, Monroe with burial in Rosehill Cemetery, Parker. Visitation will be on Sunday with family present from 4-6:00pm at the church with a Prayer Service at 6:00pm. Gertrude Griebel was born on April 2, 1925 at Humboldt, SD to Adrian “Joe” and Mary (Vanderlugt) Nugteren. She grew up at Monroe where she graduated from Monroe High School in 1943. On January 25, 1945 she was united in marriage to Lester B. Griebel at Monroe. They owned and operated the Griebel Store in Monroe for many years. She was a member of Calvary Reformed Church, Monroe Community Club, and Extension Club for 25 years, and enjoyed playing softball and was an avid bowler. Her husband died in 1995. Grateful for having shared her life are 2 daughters, Donna (Fred) Plucker, Parker and Diane (Antone LeBeau) Wentzel, Chancellor; 6 grandchildren, Ross, Jennifer, Rochelle, Ranee, Roxane, and Reginal; 12 great grandchildren, Katie, Chandler, Justin, Derrick, Dexter, Valorie, Holly, Beau, Emily, Brianna, Levi, and Teegun; and a great great grandson, Blake; 6 brothers, Arthur Nugteren, Marion, Cornelius (Liena) Nugteren, Warren Roberts, GA, Marion (Katie) Nugteren, Paw Paw, MI, John Nugteren, New Cariles, IN, Don (Carol) Nugteren, Sioux Falls, and Jim (Jeanette) Nugteren, Canistota; and a sister in law, Karen Nugteren, Monroe. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a son in law Roy, 2 grandchildren, Thad and Rhonda, a brother Tony, and 2 sisters, Johanna and Cornelia.
