Glenn E. Christensen

February 5, 1934 — March 20, 2012

Glenn Eugene Christensen was born on Feb. 5, 1934 to Albert B. and Daisy (Christensen) Christensen in rural Freeman. He served in the U.S. Army during the occupation of Korea, and finished his tour in Hawaii. He married Sharon Anne Weier on March 4, 1961 in Hurley, where they spent their entire married life. Glenn worked in road construction for many years, was manager of the Hurley Bar for several years, then spent 17 years with the SD Department of Transportation until he was forced to retire in 1997 due to his health. He then drove bus for the Hurley school for 7 years, which he dearly loved. He enjoyed sitting on the front porch watching the kids playing in the park, and his frequent visits with the day care kids. He always had a bag of suckers for them on the golf cart, which was his major mode of transportation during the nice months. He was well known for his sense of humor and saying just what he thought. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all of the kids in town. Glenn was a long-time member of Harmony Presbyterian Church in Hurley, where he kept the lawn in tip top shape until he was no longer able to do so. He had been a 25 year member of the Fire Department, and was a member of the American Legion. Survivors include his wife, a daughter Nancy (Ken) Bell of Clark, daughter-in-law Paula (Frank) Heirigs of Tea, 4 granddaughters, Ashley Christensen and Kelsi Bell of Sioux Falls, Kalli Bell of Clark, and Morgan Heirigs of Tea, 2 sisters, Marge Kaufman of Freeman and Beverly Spomer of Sioux Falls, and brother-in-law Scott Weier of Columbus, NE.. He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws Lawrence and Marge Weier, son Terry and 2 brothers-in-law, Orlando (Chevy) Kaufman and Don Spomer.
