Jean Hammond

Jean Hammond, 75, died Sunday, July 22, 2012 at the VA Medical Center in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be at 10:30am Thursday, July 26, 2012 at the Heritage Funeral Home, Sioux Falls with burial and military rites at 1:00pm at St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Howard. Visitation will begin at noon Wednesday at the funeral home with family present from 6-8:00pm Wednesday evening. Jean Stephen Hammond was born on September 13, 1936 at Roswell, SD to Stephen and Sylvia (Genzlinger) Hammond. The family lived at Howard, SD where he attended school before serving in the US Navy for 3 years. After his discharge from the service he lived in Sioux Falls where he was employed with the Post Office for 27 years until his retirement. He was a life member of the DAV, VFW, and American Legion. Grateful for having shared his life are 7 brother and sisters, Maynard (Dorothy), Blaine, MN, Mavis Christensen, Howard, Joanne Reiners, Sioux Falls, Mick (Esther), Parker, Larry (Joan), Sioux Falls, Cathy Miller, Redmond, WA, and Mary Alice (Mark) Paveglio, Bellfair, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Stevie.
