Henry “Junior” Engbrecht was born May 22, 1929 to Henry and Helen (Moeller) Engbrecht. He attended grade school in Dolton Township, Hilltop #71, and graduated from Marion High School in 1943. He attended South Dakota State University and Sioux Falls College. He then farmed with his Dad until his marriage in 1955. He married Nita Huber on December 30, 1955 and was approaching their 52nd wedding anniversary. They made their home west of Marion until 1995 when they retired into Marion. Junior was a member of the board of directors for the Tieszen Memorial Home in Marion since 1961 and had served as its chairman since 1971. In 1972 he was elected to the Turner County Commissioners and in 1979 was elected 2nd vice president of the South Dakota Commissioners’ Association and served as its president in 1981-1982. Junior also served a term as Representative in the South Dakota House of Representatives. Junior was a charter member of the Marion Lions Club of which he was still a member. Junior was an avid basketball fan, attending many games throughout the winters. Having no children of his own, he thoroughly enjoyed watching his great nephews and nieces in all of their basketball and football games. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Nita; a sister Mary (Martin) Thomas, Marion; a brother, Paul I. (Darlene), Marion; 2 sister in laws, Marian Huber, Freeman and Lillian Duncan, CA. He is survived by 3 special nieces and their families who were like grandchildren to him, Laura and Jim Wilson and their children Erin and Alex; Caroline and Brian Andersen and their children Blake, Brandon, and Kaycee, and Muriel Engbrecht, all of Marion as well as nieces Kathryn and Mary Jane Thomas, both of St. Louis, MO, Julie Phillips, Sioux Falls, and nephews Doug Pugh, Chancellor, Terry Dubs, Freeman, Bruce, Donald, and Robin Duncan, of California and many friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Helen Engbrecht, a sister Pauline Pugh, and a niece, Christi Pugh.
