Maurice W. Christensen was born on June 8, 1925 near Hurley, SD to Soren and Esther (Williamsen) Christensen. He served in the US Army during WW II in the European Theatre. On February 9, 1948 he was united in marriage to Georgiana Sechser at Parker, SD. To this union 12 children were born. They farmed near Davis for 20 years before moving to California in 1969. While in California he was employed by Tell Steel until they moved back to Hurley in 1989. In 1998 they moved to the Pioneer Villa in Viborg and his wife Georgiana died in 2000. They were very active volunteers at Pioneer Memorial and in 1999 was selected as Volunteers of the Year. He was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Hurley Senior Citizens, Knights of Columbus, and the Hurley American Legion. Grateful for having shared his life are his children, Brad (Sally), Independence, OR, Kevin (Carrie), Salem, OR, Ken (Cindy), Woodburn, OR, Carmen, Hurley, Maureen (Joe) Garry, Hurley, Monica (John) Hughes, Riverside, CA, Teresa (Roger) Berg, Ray, ND, Sheila (Jim) Holm, Wakonda, and Lisa (Jeff) Smart, Newport Beach, CA; 22 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; and 5 brothers and sisters, Florence Christophersen, Viborg, Ruth Wilcox, Jacksonville, FL, Virgil, Sioux Falls, Lloyd, Rio Verde, AZ, and Avis Jurgens, Parker. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Georgiana, sons Jeff, Craig, and infant Derold George, a sister Vivian Jorgensen, and infant brother and sister, Helen and Duane.
