Delilah Deckert was born on January 10, 1908 at Marion, SD to John B. and Nettie (Schmidt) Deckert. She grew up at Marion, graduated from Marion High School and received her teaching certificate from Southern State Normal School in Springfield, SD. She taught music in schools at Marion and Concord, NE and also gave private music lessons at home. She also played piano and organ in church for many years. On September 1, 1957 she was united in marriage to Willis Johnson at Marion, SD. They lived in Concord, NE until 1976 when she moved back to Marion. He husband Willis died in 1986. She was listed in the American Women Music Who's Who. For the past number of years she has been a resident of the Tieszen Memorial Home. Grateful for having shared her life are 3 daughters, Mona Lee Craigg, Forest Grove, OR, Lettie Elaine Osborne, Tulsa, OK, and Lorna Mae Gardner, Sioux Falls; 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Willis, a brother Anthony, and a grandson Robert Gardner.
