Boyd E. Benson

Boyd E. Benson, 80, died Thursday, July 11, 2013 suddenly in his sleep at home where he was born, raised and farmed his entire life. Funeral services will be 1:30 pm Monday, July 15, 2013 at Harmony Presbyterian Church, Hurley with burial at the Hurley Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be from 5-7 pm Sunday with a Prayer Service at 7 pm at the church. Arrangements by Hofmeister Jones Funeral Chapel, Hurley. Memorials may be directed to the Hurley Avenue of Flags or to the Harmony Presbyterian Church. Boyd Eugene Benson was born on March 11, 1933 on the Benson family farm three miles south of Hurley to Dewey and Marie (Andersen) Benson. After graduating from Hurley High School in 1951 he served in the US Air Force for four years. On July 3, 1952 he was united in marriage to Donna Lou Hyronimus at Bethel Reformed Church in Davis. After his discharge from the service he farmed on the family farm where he died on July 11, 2013. His wife Donna died in 1993. He was a member of the Harmony Presbyterian Church and the Hurley American Legion Post 21. He was an avid reader, enjoyed watching westerns especially John Wayne movies, playing cards, and attending his grandchildren’s activities. Grateful for having shared his life are his 3 children, Connie (Carey) Benson, Westfield, IA, Cindy (Tim) Graham, Hartford, SD, and Duane (Lori) Benson, Hurley, SD; 7 grandchildren, Daniel (Thresha), Greg, Carly, and Caitlin Benson, Matthew, Nicole, and Sara LaScala; 6 great grandchildren, Dax Benson, Madison, Carter, Evan, Charlee, and Kelbea LaScala; and a Benson sister in law, Cleo. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Donna, brothers Burton, Robert “Bob”, Donnie Lee, and a sister Beverley “Betty” Bright.
