Ruth Christensen

Ruth Christensen, 86, died Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at the Tieszen Memorial Home, Marion. Funeral services will be 11:00am Friday, April 25, 2008 at Grace Lutheran Church, Parker with burial in the Hurley Cemetery, Hurley. Visitation will be with family present from 6-8:00pm Thursday evening at the Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home, Parker. Ruth Steward was born on September 8, 1921 at Hurley, SD to Jess and Lena (Drake) Steward. After attending school at Hurley she was united in marriage to Alvin Christensen on August 3, 1941 in Salem Lutheran Church, rural Freeman, SD. They lived in the Parker area for over 50 years. She was employed by the Parker school lunch program for many years. They also provided for a number of foster children in their home. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. Since 1998 she has been a resident of the Tieszen Memorial Home. Her husband died in 1977. Survivors include 2 children, Trudy (Dennis) Lawson, Crooks, and Randy (Audrey) Christensen, Redfield; a brother Dreldon (Mildred) Steward, Parker; and 3 grandsons, Dan Lawson, Travis Lawson, and Corey Luke. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, an infant son Gayle Lee, and a brother Warren Steward.
