Dr. Brad K. Schmidt, 42, chiropractor, died Thursday, May 22, 2008 from a heart attack. Funeral services will be at 10:00am Thursday, May 29, 2008 at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, Marion with burial in the Greenwood Cemetery, Marion. Visitation will be on Wednesday evening with a 7:00pm Prayer Service followed by Masonic Rites at the church. Arrangements made by Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Chapel, Marion. Bradley Keith Schmidt was born on March 11, 1966 at Sioux Falls to Dr. Robert J. and Betty L. (Tieszen) Schmidt. Brad attended and graduated from Marion High School in 1984. During his high school years he received numerous athletic, academic, and musical awards. On June 6, 1987 he was united in marriage to Pamela R. Skelton. They were blessed with four children, Broderick, Braden, Brennan, and Braxton. After attending Buena Vista University, Storm Lake, Iowa where he played basketball and baseball, he received a Doctor of Chiropractic degree in December of 1990 from Northwestern College of Chiropractic, Bloomington, MN. Upon returning to Marion, SD he joined in practice at the Edward D. Tieszen Clinic with his father as a fifth generation chiropractor. Following his father’s retirement in 1997, Brad continued his practice and the art of healing until his death. After being appointed by the governor he served 8 years on the SD Chiropractic Board of Examiners. Brad was a lifetime resident of Marion and lifelong member of Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, Marion. He was a choir member, Sunday School teacher, deacon, and elder. Brad especially loved hunting, fishing, coaching and participating in sports with his sons. Brad was an avid golfer and a lifelong fan of the Duke Blue Devils. His community involvement included; Member of the Parker Masonic Lodge #30, Past Master, Grand Marshall of South Dakota, 32° Mason, Yankton Valley Scottish Rite, El Riad Shrine, Parker Flivvers, Honorary member of the Marion Volunteer Fire Department, Marion High School Team Physician, Assistant Varsity Boys Basketball Coach, Head B Team Coach, Fifth and Sixth Grace Basketball Coach, Pee Wee and Little League Baseball Coach. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Pamela, 4 sons, Broderick, Braden, Brennan, and Braxton; his father Dr. Robert Schmidt; a brother Brian and wife Natalie, Sioux Falls; and many nieces, nephews, friends, and relatives. He was preceded in death by his mother Betty and grandparents.
