Lyle and Betty Nelson, 79 and 75, died Thursday, May 22, 2008 at their home. Funeral services will be 10:30am on Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at Grace Lutheran Church, Parker with burial in Rosehill Cemetery, Parker. Visitation will be with family present from 6-8:00pm Monday evening at the church with a Prayer Service at 7:30pm. Arrangements by Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home, Parker. Lyle Burdette Nelson was born on May 18, 1929 in Hurley, SD to Harvey and Bertha (Jensen) Nelson. He joined the Air Force at 17 years of age and received his GED while in the service. Betty Lou Haase was born on March 6, 1933 in Parker, SD to Gustav and Clara (Bertelson) Haase. When she was very young her father died and her mother married Ted Tysdal whom became her step dad. She graduated from Parker High School where she was crowned the Homecoming Queen. Lyle and Betty were married on August 10, 1952 at Grace Lutheran Church in Parker. They were blessed with three children, Terry, Thomas, and Patricia. Lyle served as a state radio dispatcher and State Trooper in the South Dakota Highway Patrol for 27 years, retiring as a Sergeant. Betty worked as a police department dispatcher, a nurse’s aide, and in the Lincoln County Courthouse. She enjoyed singing with the Sweet Adeline’s Choir. Lyle and Betty were loving, supportive parents and were especially talented grandparents. They enjoyed their travels to new places, Ireland was a favorite. They had soft hearts for all people and creatures. Proud of sharing their lives are their children, Terry and wife Kathy, Vermillion, SD, Tom and wife Gail, Littleton, CO, and Patti Block and husband Lenny, Canton, SD; 4 grandchildren, Ashley, Len, Burdette Lyle, and Katie; and a great grandson, James; Betty’s sister, Delores Wray, Sioux Falls; Lyle’s brother and sisters, Lloyd Nelson, Kansas City, MO, Virginia Blase, Madison, SD, and Vivian Schumacher, Luverne, MN. They were preceded in death by their parents, Betty’s step dad Ted and niece Rebecca, and Lyle’s brothers and sisters Virgil, Merle, Helen, and Fern in infancy.
