Vilma N. Hansen Hurley. Vilma N. Hansen, 84, died Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at her home surrounded by family after a brief battle with cancer. Memorial Services will be at 2:00pm Thursday, June 26, 2008 at Zion Lutheran Church, Hurley with inurnment at the Hurley Cemetery. Arrangements by Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Chapel, Hurley. Vilma N. Wedell was born on October 29, 1923 at Freeman, SD to John and Kathryn (Moench) Wedell. She grew up eight miles west of Hurley where she attended rural country school district #34. After graduating from Hurley High School in 1941 she worked for 2 years in Marion before her marriage to Milo Hansen on June 6, 1943. She spent the majority of her life as a farmwife, loving mother, and grandmother. After she raised her family she worked in the Viborg Drug Store, Hurley Café, and the Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home. She was very proud of her grandchildren and enjoyed attending their many sporting events though the years. Her many enjoyments included reading, sewing, traveling, and cooking for her family. Grateful for having shared her life are 2 children, Larry Hansen and Diane Reiners and her husband James, Hurley; 4 grandchildren, Donovan Hansen and wife Irena, Las Vegas, NV, Jeremy Hansen and wife Lisa, Elko, NV, Stacy Wiebesiek and husband Kyle, Sioux Falls, Angie Goettertz and husband Chris, Hurley; and 8 great grandchildren, Hannah, Hailey, Braden, Gage, Rafe, Kate, Kayla, and Kyle. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
