Fern Kasten, 92 died Sunday, May 11, 2014 at the Sanford Hospice Cottage, Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be at 1:00pm Friday, May 16, 2014 at First Presbyterian Church, Parker with burial in Rosehill Cemetery, Parker. Visitation with family present will be from 6-8pm Thursday evening at Hofmeister Jones Funeral Home, Parker with a Prayer Service at 6:00pm. Fern Julia Jerman was born on November 24, 1921 at Canistota, SD to George and Hertha (Kehrberg) Jerman. After graduating from Canistota High School she recieved her teaching certificate from Eastern Normal College in Madison. She taught rural country school before being united in marriage to Lyle Kasten on November 21, 1943 at Canistota, SD. They lived at Canistota, Sioux Falls and Humboldt before moving to a farm north of Parker. Her husband Lyle died in 1972. She moved into Parker where she was employed as the dietary supervisor at the Hilltop Nursing Home until her retirement in 1987. On February 2, 1980 she was united in marriage to Woodrow Kasten at Shakopee, MN. Her husband Woodrow died in 1999. In 2000 she moved to Sioux Falls. She was a member of the First Presbyerian Church, Parker Senior Citizens, and Order of Eastern Star. Grateful for having shared her life are 5 children, Konnie Kasten, Niangua, MO, Mary (Gary) Marche, Claremore, OK, Nancy Looby and Petur Jonsson, Fayetteville, NC, Diane (Chester) DeYoung, Sioux Falls, and Doug Kasten, Spearfish, SD; 3 grandchildren, Austin, Jason, and Elan; and 3 step children, Gloria (Bob) Lutter, Hartford, SD, Colleen (Jerry) Graff, Humboldt, SD, and Jim (Linda) Kasten, Parker; 8 step grandchildren, Jennifer, Mark, Beth, thomas, Bryan, Adam, Susan, and Steve and 11 step great grandchildren, MaKena, Morgan, Shane, Alex, Ethan, Kennedy, Kambrey, Ashton, Elliot, David, and Josephine. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Lyle and Woodrow, 2 brothers Paul and Martin, and 5 sisters, Edna, Hurtha, Edith, Dorothy, and Margarete.
