Wilbert "Bud" And Joyce Yopp

Wilbert L. “Bud” Yopp, 88 and wife Joyce Yopp, 87 died hours apart on Monday, July 14, 2014 from natural causes at Sanford Hospice Cottage and Sanford USD Medical Center. Funeral services will be at 10:30am Saturday, July 19, 2014 at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, Marion with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, Marion. Visitation will begin at 4:00pm Friday at the church with a Prayer Service at 7:30pm followed by a Masonic Service. Arrangements by Hofmeister Jones Funeral Chapel, Marion. Bud Yopp was born on January 21, 1926 in Marion, SD to Benjamin and Laura (Johnson) Yopp. He grew up in Marion and graduated from Marion High School in 1944. Bud joined the US Navy during WWII and attended the University of California at Berkeley, graduating in 1948. He was commissioned a Naval officer with the rank of Lieutenant. Joyce Beebe Stratton was born on June 30, 1927 in Chester, SD to Howard and Bernice (Cline) Stratton. Her family moved to Marion in 1941. She graduated from Marion High School in 1945. After high school she was employed by Bell Telephone as a phone operator until she was united in marriage to Bud on August 24, 1947 at the Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in Marion. They lived in California for a year while Bud served in the Navy and completed his education. They returned to Marion where Bud started working with his dad in the Yopp Furniture store in 1948 and continued to run the store after his dad passed away in 1953. Bud continued to operate the store until the store was closed in 1970. In 1958, Bud started his long career with IDS as a sales representative and District Manager, retiring in 2001. Following his retirement, Bud and Joyce spent many winters in Apache Junction, AZ where they enjoyed the visits from family and friends. Bud and Joyce were both active members of the Emmanuel Presbyterian Church where Bud served as an Elder and Joyce taught Sunday school. Bud was a member of the Masonic Lodge and American Legion and Joyce was a past president and member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Bud and Joyce enjoyed the outdoors and always looked forward to their fishing trips to Lake of the Woods and the Missouri river with Joyce’s mom and dad and many other family members. Bud also enjoyed his many hunting trips with family and friends and especially the deer hunting trips to the Black Hills with his son’s and their families. Joyce enjoyed her many visits and trips with her daughter and sisters attending craft fairs and family reunions across the Midwest. Their love of family and strong faith was the foundation of their 67 years of marriage. Grateful for having shared their life are 5 children, Danny (Peggy), Elbert, CO, Brad (Debbie), Plymouth, MN, Craig (Dixie), New Richmond, WI, Kevin (Tina), Sioux Falls, and Cindy Ensz, Sioux Falls; 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; Bud’s sister Loretta Adrian, Hermosa, SD; Joyce’s brothers Charles (Grace) Stratton, Apple Valley, MN and Jerry (Germaine) Stratton, Marion; Joyce’s sisters Dee Dalke, Mishawaka, IN and Katie (Marion) Nugteren, Paw Paw, MI; and Joyce’s brother-in-law Dr. Gene Dressler, Wagner, SD. They are preceded in death by their parents, a daughter Susan, Bud's brother-in-law, Wallace Adrian, Joyce’s brother Roger and wife Ardis and her sister Gertrude.
