Phyllis Luke

Phyllis Luke, 86, died Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at the Sanford Hospice Cottage, Sioux Falls. Funeral mass will be at 10:30am Monday, August 18, 2014 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Marion with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation with family present will be from 5-7pm Sunday at the church with a Scripture Service and Rosary at 7:00pm. Arrangements by Hofmeister Jones Funeral Home. Phyllis Marie Plucker was born on April 9, 1928 near Chancellor, SD to Joe and Anna (Bloem) Plucker. She moved with her family to Parker where she graduated from Parker High School in 1946. She was employed as a phone operator and worked in the grocery store before being untied in marriage to Al Luke on November 17, 1953 at Parker. They lived in Marion where they raised their five children. She was also the bookkeeper for Luke Bros. Construction. Later, she was employed as receptionist at the Tieszen Clinic where she enjoyed meeting and making friends with patients from around the country. She was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Altar Society, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She resided at Marion Assisted Living for the past four years where she made many friends. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren always put a twinkle in her eye and a brought a smile to her face! Phyllis enjoyed crocheting, taking care of her flowers, canning, and baking. For many years, she and Al enjoyed attending their children and grandchildren’s activities. They also enjoyed dancing, watching the Minnesota Twins, and making craft items together to give as gifts to their children and grandchildren. Al and Phyllis dedicated many hours and were great caretakers for Joanne and her family during her illness. Grateful for having shared her life are two sons, Maurice, Sioux Falls, and Terry, Humboldt; two daughters, Lunette Pearson, Sioux Falls, and Kathy Rand, Parker; 14 grandchildren, Adam (Kris), Allie (Brian), Abbey; Matt (Josie), Jon (Angie), Tyler (Amanda); Eliza, Lucas (Lindsey), Alex, Anna; Sarah; Tyler, Kiley, and Jaden. 15 great grandchildren, Andrew, Hannah, Isabelle, Jacob, Sophia, Addison; Aspen, Wyatt, Levi, Breslyn, Hadley, Raegan; Caitlin; Grayson and Paisley; and a sister in law, Norma Plucker, Sioux City, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Al, daughter Joanne, and four brothers and sisters, Bert, Peggy, Athea, and Dick.
