Caryl Ann Rand Marion. Caryl Rand, 88 died Saturday, September 20, 2014 at Sanford USD Medical Center, Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be at 10:30am Thursday, September 25, 2014 at Calvary Reformed Church, Monroe with burial at the Monroe Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 3-4pm at the Tieszen Memorial Home Chapel, Marion and from 5-7pm with family present at the Hofmeister Jones Funeral Chapel, Marion with a Prayer Service at 7:00pm Wednesday evening. Carol Ann Johnson was born May 6, 1926 at Lake Crystal, MN to Jense and Hazel A. (Lowe) Johnson. She attended grade school near Lake Crystal. After graduating from Lake Crystal High School in 1944 she attended Mankato Teachers College (now Mankato State University) graduating in 1948. Teaching was her career and she taught in Brownton, MN for two years and at Emerson Grade School in Sioux Falls, SD for three years. After that she was asked to be a church missionary for the Central Baptist Church in Sioux Falls for a year. While finishing her work at Central Baptist she was united in marriage to Marlyn E. Rand on April 11, 1954 at Sioux Falls. They farmed near Pumpkin Center for about eleven years. Children born to them were James, Kathryn, Richard, and Larry. In the spring of 1963 she resumed her teaching career by teaching at Monroe for two years and then teaching at Trent, Flandreau, and since 1968 at Canistota until her retirement in 1991. She was baptized at Central Baptist Church in Sioux Falls in 1952 and became a member there. Later she transferred her membership to the Spring Valley Baptist Church north of Monroe where she remained a member until the church closed in 1971. Since that time she has attended First Reformed Church in Monroe and has been an active member since joining the church. Her hobbies have been music, photography, and reading. Grateful for having shared her life are her husband Marlyn; 4 children, James (Sharla), Parker, Kathryn (Brian) Schmidt, Marion, Richard (Demme), Parker, and Larry (Margaret), Parker; 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and a great great grandchild; and a brother in law, Ivan Rand, Humboldt. She was preceded in death by her parents, her parents in law Eilert and Annie, a grandson Terry, great grandchildren R.J. and Julianna, brothers Don and Glenn, a sister Merlou, nieces and nephews Judith, Paul, and Joe, a great nephew, Kasey, and a brother in law, Robert.
