Elmer Elery Ortman

Elmer Ortman, 82, died Tuesday, November 11, 2008 at Sanford USD Health Center. Memorial services will be 10:30am Saturday, November 15, 2008 at Bethesda Mennonite Church, rural Marion. Burial was at West Vermillion Cemetery, Marion. Arrangements by Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Chapel, Marion. Elmer Elery Ortman was born on February 27, 1926 near Dolton, SD to Henry C. and Adina Ortman. He grew up on the farm, attended school at Dolton and finished his education in Mitchell. He studied electronics and was a radio repairman. On August 13, 1950 he was united in marriage to Loraine Fast at Dolton. They farmed near Dolton and moved into Sioux Falls in 1999. He had been a member of Silver Lake MB Church and currently a member of Lincoln Hills Bible Church, Sioux Falls. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Loraine; 3 daughters, Margaret (Bill) Loewen, Sioux Falls, Marilyn (Dan) Christmore, Wichita, KS, and Shirley (John) Luce, Sparks, NV; 7 grandchildren, Karissa, Kimberly, Eric, Corbin, Sarah, Jared, and Timothy, and a great grandson, Emory; a brother Vernon (Darlene) Ortman, Sioux Falls; and a sister Glenys Ortman, Sioux Falls He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Leslie, and 2 half brothers, Alvin and Marvin in infancy.
