Lavon Niezwaag, died January 14, 2015 at the Freeman Medical Center. Funeral services will be at 10:30am Monday, January 19, 2015 at First Church of Monroe, Monroe, SD with burial at the Monroe Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be from 5-7:00pm Sunday with a Prayer Service at 7:00pm at the Hofmeister Jones Funeral Chapel, Marion. Lavon Niezwaag was born on May 7, 1920 to Al and Mayme (Tarrell) Jansa. She grew up at Canistota and graduated from Canistota High School in 1938. On October 21, 1952 she was united in marriage to Henry "Hank" Niezwaag. They made their home in Marion for the rest of their lives. They adopted two children to complete their family, Linda and Rick. Lavon held several part time jobs over the years. She was a faithful member of the First Reformed Church of Monroe and an active member of the church Ladies Guild. One of her favorite past times was playing cards with friends. This was a great joy for her. Lavon was also a bowler and bowled on an afternoon league for many years. At the age of 90 Lavon moved into the Tieszen Memorial Home. Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Linda Dykstra and her husband Brian, Rick Niezwaag and his wife Jess; 9 grandchildren, Brandyn Dykstra, Lindsay Dykstra (Chris Willers), Bobbi Jo Brenner (Justin), Brandi Niezwaag, Laine Linneweber, Aricka Niezwaag, Tori Niezwaag, Henry Niezwaag, and Brody Niezwaag; 5 great grandchildren, Macy Lou Willers, Ashton and Kona Brenner, Albert and Sophie; and a brother and sister in law, Jake and Gladys Niezwaag. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Hank in 2003, and a sister and brother in law, Adeline and Don Watson.
