Sharmla Kim Becker was born on October 30, 1965 to Darwin and Louvaine (Langerock) Gortmaker in Sioux Falls, SD. She enjoyed growing up on a farm outside of Monroe, SD with her three sisters, Shelly, Sherry, Shawny, and long awaited brother, Daryl. Shar attended grade school in Monroe and graduated from Marion High School in 1984. She then attended Nettleton College in Sioux Falls where she graduated as a legal secretary. After graduating college, she started work at the Home Federal Bank in downtown Sioux Falls, where she met life long friends. On October 7, 1989 she was united in marriage to Doyle Becker. They were blessed with two boys, Shayne and Shaun. After the boys were born, Shar transferred to Freeman to work at Home Federal and First National Bank, as well as other various branches of Home Federal. She then took over the books for the family business that she and Doyle started. She took pride in being prompt, fair, and organized, but also loved the challenge. Shar enjoyed raising her two boys and attending all of their activities and events. The boys were a major priority in her life; she spent a lot of time shopping for matching clothes and gifts for them (it had to be fair), watching movies as a family, and taking trips to Sioux Falls to eat. She loved to be home and spend time together as a family. Family was very important to her as she planned all of the family gatherings and always took care of everyone in the family. She was a very giving, selfless person who put everybody else before herself and would go out of her way to help. She donated to St. Jude’s Hospital, sponsored children overseas, as well as donated to missionaries, charities, and gifted presents to children in need at Christmas. She loved many of the simple things in life, such as walking, mowing, and occasionally boating in the summer months. Shar greatly valued the many pictures she took of her boys. Some of her beloved memories were planning and taking trips with her family. One of her favorite memories was taking her kids to Disney World in 2003. Most recently was a trip to Hawaii in 2014 that she spent over a year planning. Memories were made that will last a lifetime. Shar was baptized as an infant and accepted the Lord as her personal Savior as a young girl. She was a member of Calvary Reformed Church where she attended church regularly through the course of her treatments, even when she wasn’t feeling her best. Faith was very important to Shar. She enjoyed reading her daily devotional and listening to Christian music. Those looking forward to joining her in heaven include her husband, Doyle; sons, Shayne and Shaun; parents, Darwin and Louvaine; sisters, Shelly (Jim) Farrell, Sherry (Allen) Huber, Shawny (Paul) Bussa; brother, Daryl (Dana) Gortmaker; mother-in-law, Eleanor Becker; sister-in-law Lorene (Kevin) Wissink; nieces and nephews, Kirsten, Lisabeth, Nick, Dustyn, Daltyn, Seth, Alexa, and Macy; special friends, Brooklyn Glanzer and Allison Sanner; and many other friends. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Bert and Louise Langerock and Eddy and Joy Gortmaker; and father-in-law, Vermon Becker. Memorials maybe directed to Campus Crusade for Christ.
