Dick Lueders

Orville Richard “Dick” Lueders was born March 14, 1931 in his grandmothers’ home in Pipestone, MN to Clarence and Elva (Edgecomb) Lueders. He died at his home March 2, 2015 just days before is 84th birthday. He attended schools in Pipestone, Marshall and Sioux Falls, SD graduating from Washington High School in 1949. On Sept. 3rd, 1949, he married Deon Lawrence in Sioux Falls. Four children were born to them. After working at Morrells a short time, he began a 40 year career with Northern States Power Co. (Xcel Energy). A job transfer took the family to Bridgewater in 1951 and then to Marion in January of 1961. He retired in 1993. After retirement, he worked for FreMar Coop and Wieman Land and Auction. Deon and Dick’s motorcycle trips on their Harley Davidson, through out the US were a special activity that created many lasting friendships. Dick was a member of Emmanuel Presbyterian Church and attended Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Marion. He was a member of the Marion Fire Department, serving as chief for a period of time. As the chair of the Shrine Circus Ticket sales for 35 years, he realized the benefits of the Shriners’ Hospitals. He enjoyed mowing his lawn but hunting geese, ducks, pheasant and deer was his greatest love. Grandpa Lueders attended many Marion Bears sporting events as well as dance recitals and Junior league football games. Visitation will be on Friday, March 6th, 2015 at 6 PM at the Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in Marion. At 7:00 PM, a short prayer service will be conducted with a time of sharing followed by the Masonic service. Funeral services are at the Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in Marion at 10:30 AM on Saturday, March 7th, 2015. He leaves his wife, Deon, daughters, Lana (Dennis) Herlyn, Parker, SD, Candyce (Jaloy) Gustafson, Poulsbo, WA, Kimberlee Baarson, Sioux Falls, SD, and a son Donavon (Laurie), Lueders, Garretson, SD, one granddaughter, 9 grandsons and 18 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Shriner’s Hospitals for Children, El Riad Transportation Fund, or a charity of the givers choice.
