Laverne Odegaard, 82, died Thursday, December 25, 2008 at the VA Medical Center in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be at 10:30am Monday, December 29, 2008 at Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home, Parker with burial with military rites at the Hurley Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-4:00pm Sunday with family present. Laverne was born on December 17, 1926 at Lake Park, Minnesota to Herman and Hattie (Christensen) Odegaard. He served in the US Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany. He was united in marriage to Mary “Arlene” Brown. He worked as a carpenter. Survivors include his wife Arlene, Hurley; a son Ron (Tami), Sioux Falls; a daughter Shelly (Glen) Paetow, Hurley; 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; 3 step-sons, Steve (Connie) Kukla, Avon Kukla, and Neal (Deloris) Kukla, all of North Dakota; 2 sisters, Annis Selle and Lee Hockenson. Preceded in death by his parents, a son Sheldon, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
