Doreen Shierk, 91, died Sunday, January 11, 2009 at the Tieszen Memorial Home, Marion. Funeral services will be at 10:30am Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at the Heritage Funeral Home, Sioux Falls with burial at Hills of Rest Memorial Parker, Sioux Falls. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 6-8:00pm with family present. A VFW Auxilary Prayer Service will be said at 7:00pm. Doreen Melba Vaillancourt was born on February 18, 1917 in Minnesota to Phil and Edith (Tobas) Vaillancourt. On January 22, 1942 she was united in marriage to Darold B. Shierk at Foreston, Minnesota. In 1946 they moved to Sioux Falls where she was employed in the school lunch program at Edison Junior High School for 15 years. Her husband Darold died on May 9, 1989. She lived at Hilda’s Home in Lennox for 12 1/2 years before moving to the Tieszen Memorial Home in Marion in July of 2007. She was a member of the VFW Auxilary and Cooties, and past member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church. Grateful for having shared her life are 2 daughters, Dot Zebell and husband Jim, Parker, and Donna Kothe and husband Robert, Custer; 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Ione Spillios, Green Valley, AZ and Lois Pierson, Mora, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister Mayme Osberg, 3 brothers, Clyde, Howard, and John, 3 nieces and 2 nephews.
