Stanley Hagen

Stanley Hagen, 92 of Parker died Saturday, May 30, 2015 at the Tieszen Memorial Home, Marion. Memorial services will be at 1:30pm Saturday, June 6, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church, Parker. Stanley E. Hagen was born on a farm north of Parker on December 14, 1922 to William and Cora (Thompson) Hagen. He passed away on May 30, 2015. After cremation, burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery in Parker. Stanley was the 10th child of a family of eleven children. He was raised on farms in the Monroe and Parker areas, and attended schools in those areas. On Valentines Day, February 14, 1947 he was united in marriage to Darlene Friman of Hurley. After working for other farmers and sheep ranchers for some years, he started farming for himself in 1947, they made their home on a farm north of Parker for over 41 years. Stanley was a hard worker, and enjoyed God's world and its people very much, his richest possession was his family. They had three daughters, Cheryl, Charlene, and Colleen. Stanley was a church member most of his life, serving on church boards, was a Sunday School superintendent, and a youth leader with his wife for a number of years. In later years he was an elder. He has been a member of the Parker Presbyterian Church since 1979. Stanley served on the Rosehill Cemetery board for 35 years, where he also served as president. Stanley bowled for 39 years. After retiring from the farm in 1988, he really enjoyed being one of the "Golden Boys" at the Empire HyVee several days a week for over 15 years. Stanley enjoyed crow hunting, goose hunting, and was a manager of the O.K. Softball Team for some years. He was a big fan of the Minnesota Twins. Stanley was Parker's Abe Lincoln. He portrayed Lincoln in centennials and parades many times. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Cora Hagen, sisters Gladys Long and Leona Nordstrom, brothers Carl, Clarence, Ivan, Floyd, Virgil, Earl, and Melvin, and son in law Darwin Mellegaard. Grateful for having shared his life are his beloved wife Darlene, his daughters Cheryl (Steve Beier), Sioux Falls, Charlene (Bruce Ritter), Parker, and Colleen (Jim Steen), Sioux Falls; his 6 much loved grandchildren, Ryan (Jessica) Beier, Harrisburg, Shalece Beier, Sioux Falls, Corey (Leah) Mellegaard, Dimock, Lane (Brooke) Mellegaard, Sioux Falls, Chelsey (Michael) Phipps, Denison, IA, and Jessica (Joe) Nickels, Omaha, NE; his 10 great grandchildren, Evan, Mareth and C..J. Beier, Harrisburg, Claire, Anna, and Drew Mellegaard, Dimock, Meile, Berklie, and Kase Mellegaard, Sioux Falls, and Harper Phipps, Denison; a sister Mildred Nelson, Parker; and a sister in law, Hazel Hagen, Colorado. Also many relatives, neighbors, and friends. In lieu of flowers memorials maybe directed to Parker Community Vacation Bible School or Union Gospel Mission.
