Our Savior Jesus Christ has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the Gospel. Let us remember with thanksgiving what God has done through his servant Florence Sturzenbecher. Florence Winona (Hansen) Sturzenbecher was given life by God the Father on September 18, 1933 at home in Volin. She is the oldest daughter of Clifford and Esther (Kamback) Hansen. She received the gift of Holy Baptism as an infant and became a child of God. She confessed her Baptismal faith and received Jesus very body and blood in the Lord’s Supper. On September 11, 1954, God blessed her with Rudy, a faithful and loving husband for 60 years. Rudy and Florence were blessed with three dearly loved children: Dean, Randy, and LeAnn. They were also blessed with six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. After graduating from Irene High School, Mom received her nursing degree from Sacred Heart College of Nursing, Yankton. She was a faithful and hardworking companion with Rudy on the farm. Mom served many years at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Marion serving in many and various roles. Mom was generous to a fault and compassionate to all who were in need. These qualities served her well as she started her second career as an RN serving the elderly for 22 years in Freeman, Parker and Viborg nursing homes. After retiring from nursing, Mom and Dad served 5 years with Laborer’s for Christ, traveling the country building churches. Mom was the son her Dad wished he had. From him she gained a love of the outdoors, and could out fish most people. She loved to garden, and bake and entertain guests. In Mom’s later years Alzheimer’s disease robbed her of her memories, but could not steal her love of hymns or the Lord’s Prayer. On August 26, 2015, Florence, at the age of 81 years, fell asleep in Jesus. She is survived by her loving husband Rudy, her three children Dean and Judy (Wollmann) Sturzenbecher of Parker, Randy and Vonda (Berg) Sturzenbecher of Black Hawk, and LeAnn (Sturzenbecher) and Clayton Kaufman of Marion. Six grandchildren: Cody Sturzenbecher and Rose Ackerman, Kyle Sturzenbecher, Ryan Sturzenbecher, Megan Sutton, Rachel Kaufman, and Jason Kaufman; 3 great grandchildren: Jaycob Baughman, Jeremyah Ackerman, and Kynslee Sturzenbecher; one sister, Cecila (Hansen) Kvam and her husband Bruce. She is preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Esther Hansen.
