Ardell Mary Georgeson, 94, died Sunday, March 8, 2009 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30am Thursday, March 12, 2009 at Idywilde, St. Boniface Catholic Church, Turkey Ridge, SD with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1:00pm Wednesday at the Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Chapel, Hurley with a Wake Service and Rosary to be said at 7:00pm. Ardell Mary Brunner was born on September 9, 1914 at the family farm in Spring Valley Township in Turner County to Wendell and Emma (Anderson) Brunner. She attended rural school district #38 a half a year as her parents left the farm due to her father’s poor health. She moved to Parker with her parents and her father died shortly after moving to Parker. She continued her education at Parker for grades 1-4. In 1924 Ardell and her mother moved to Hurley to keep house for her uncle Nels Anderson. Ardell attended parochial school at Marion for 3 years and Bridgewater for a year. She attended Hurley High School, graduating in 1933. Shortly after graduation Ardell and her mother moved to Sioux Falls where Ardell attended college for 2 years at Columbus Girls School and Augustana College. In 1935 they moved to Parker where she taught school at District #27 west of Turkey Ridge for a year, 2 years at District #40 west of Viborg, and 2 years at District #12 northwest of Parker. On May 22, 1940 she was united in marriage to Russell A. Georgeson. To this union 7 children were born. They farmed on the Brunner farm 9 1/2 miles west of Hurley. They lived on the farm for 39 years before moving into Hurley. She was a member of the Jolly Homemakers Extension Club and the St. Boniface Altar Society. Ardell enjoyed being a farm wife and mother and took great pride in raising a large garden with many beautiful flowers. Her husband Russell died on February 27, 1999. Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Bill Georgeson, Sioux Falls, Joe Georgeson and special friend Karon Wilson, Viborg, Carolyn (Richard) Cink, Sioux Falls, Donna (John) Merrick, Council Bluffs, IA, and Marcia (Robert) Sunderman, Sioux Falls; a daughter in law, Linda Georgeson, Hurley; a sister in law, Phyllis Friman, Lennox; 11 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sons, Kenneth and Darrell, a son in law, Norman and a grand son in law, Curt.
