Donald A. Hentges, 83 died Sunday, April 5, 2009 at Southridge Care Center, Sioux Falls. Funeral service will be at 2:00pm Thursday, April 9, 2009 at the First Presbyterian Church, Parker with burial with military honors at Rosehill Cemetery, Parker. Visitation will begin at noon at the Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home, Parker with a Prayer Service to be said at 7:30pm. Donald A. Hentges was born on December 4, 1925 at Marion, SD to Henry and Jeanette (Andrews) Hentges. After graduating from Humboldt High School in 1943 he served in the US Army during WW II, having been stationed in Japan. On May 15, 1948 he was united in marriage to Arlis Otten at Parker. He was engaged in farming in the Humboldt area from 1949-1995 when he retired. He instrumental in starting and was board president of the Minnehaha Community Water Corporation, past chairman of the SD Rural Water Association for many years, member of the Humboldt American Legion Post 62, various thresher men’s associations, a 4-H Leader and First Presbyterian Church, where he served on the board and also volunteered as a Sunday School Teacher. He continued his enjoyment of being around children, when after his retirement from farming he spent hours making jump ropes for kids at various functions and threshing bees. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Arlis; 3 children, Gregory (Tami) Hentges, Watertown, Joy Hentges (Arthur Zamora), Glendale, AZ, and Paul (Linda) Hentges, Humboldt; 5 grandchildren, Levi, Haley, Dustin, James, and Arlis, and 4 great grandchildren; and a sister, Betty (Max) Klass, Glendale, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Louise and Dolly, and a 3 brothers, Francis, Leslie, and Virgil. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the charity of the donors choice.
