Mildred Wiens

July 2, 1925 — January 19, 2016

Mildred Mae Wiens, 90, died Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at the Tieszen Memorial Home in Marion, SD. Funeral services will be at 2:00pm Monday, January 25, 2016 at Salem Zion Mennonite Church (North), rural Freeman, SD. Visitation with family present will be from 2-4pm Sunday at the Tieszen Home Chapel, Marion. Arrangements by Hofmeister Jones Funeral Home. Mildred was born on July 2, 1925 at Marion, SD to Isaac and Marie (Graber) Berg. She grew up in the Marion area and graduated from Marion High School in 1943. On November 19, 1944 she was united in marriage to Harvey Wiens. They were married for 69 years. She was baptized by the Rev. H Albert Classen at the Salem Zion Mennonite Church where as an adult Mildred chaired and participated in many church committees. Mildred was a farmer’s wife for 16 years and after moving to Freeman she cooked at various restaurants and was known for her delicious pies. For 9 years Mildred was a co-truck driver with her husband who was an owner/operator driver for Midwest Coast Transport. They enjoyed their time on the road and yet always made time for fishing, camping and family. Mildred was always ready to play a game of cards or a board game, that was her favorite past time. Harvey and Mildred lived near Freeman most of their life and after retirement enjoyed spending twenty winters in Mission, TX. Mildred and Harvey became residents at the Tieszen Memorial Home in Marion, SD in 2009. Grateful for having shared her life are; 2 sons Orvis Wiens, Phoenix, AZ and Barton Wiens, Loveland, CO; 4 daughters Jenell Porter, Denver, CO, Glenda (Scott) Schempp, Vermillion, SD, Lynette Anderson, Sioux Falls, SD, and Vera (Jon) Lenderts, Edinburg, TX; grandchildren Lona (Matt) Christensen, Rapid City, SD, Bryan (Jeni) Wiens, Albany, MN, Joshua (Sanda) Wiens and Shane Wiens, all of Everett, WA, Nicole (Chris) Solomon, Mitchell, SD, Dustin Schempp and Amanda Holden, Sioux Falls, SD, Jarrod Koerner, Sioux Falls, SD; great-grandchildren, Destiny, Lauren, Caiden, Aurelia, Taylor, Lucas, Hadley, and Noah: great-great granddaughter, Millianah; step-grandchildren, Tracy (Wamser) Knox, Parachute, CO, Sarah (Jamie) DeJean, Dilworth, MN, Jim Lenderts, Fort Collins, CO, Jackie Loger, Sioux Falls, SD and Susan (Jeff) Ventimiglia, Raleigh, NC; step-great grandchildren, Brandon, Brett, Brice, Justin, Alexandra, Isabella, Jessica, Carolyn, Annelise, Marielle and Madeline; two sisters, Janice (Peter) Stahl, Flandreau, SD and Doris Pearson, Colorado Springs, CO. 1 brother-in-law and his wife, Dennis (Lavida) Wiens, Shevlin, MN and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harvey, a daughter-in-law, Janet, brother-in-law, Merton Pearson, brother-in-law, Arvel Wiens and his wife Marian Wiens.
