Marvin E. Wentzel, 86, died Sunday, May 24, 2009 at the VA Medical Center, Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be 1:30pm Friday, May 29, 2009 at the First Presbyterian Church, Parker with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, Marion. Visitation will be on Thursday at the Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home, Parker with family present from 6-8:00pm. Marvin Edward Wentzel was born on December 30, 1922 at Corona, SD to Charles and Hattie (Dirkson) Wentzel. The family moved to Marion where he attended school. He served in the US Army during WW II having been stationed in European Theatre. On March 18, 1950 he was united in marriage to Tena VanWesten and they lived in Parker. She died in 1957. He had been employed with Flyger Sheep Farm, G & W Grocery Store, and the Turner County Highway Dept. On November 17, 1958 he was united in marriage to Alma Janssen at Luverne, MN. In 1999 they moved to Marion. She died in 2000. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Parker. Grateful for having shared his life are 4 sons, Eugene (Wanda), Marion, Duane (Debby), Aloha, OR, Gary (Shelley) and Terry (Vicky), all of Hurley; 2 daughters Shirley (Lloyd) Fincher, Marion, and Rita (Tony) Dairsow, Randallstown, MD; 15 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; 4 brothers, Robert (friend Donna), Clifford (Esther), Lawrence, all of Marion, and Duke (Bev), Des Moines, IA; and 2 sisters, Verna Schoenwald, Marion and Carol (Chet) Graber, Lennox. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Tina and wife Alma, a brother Morris, a granddaughter Alicia Dairsow, and great granddaughter, Trinity Cremer.
