Harvey H. Hopf, 84, died Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at the Tieszen Memorial Home, Marion. Funeral services will be at 10:30am Saturday, July 18, 2009 at Harmony Presbyterian Church, Hurley with burial in the Hurley Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-4:00pm Friday at the Tieszen Memorial Chapel in Marion and at the Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home, Parker on Friday evening with a Prayer Service to be said at 7:00pm. Harvey Harley Hopf was born on April 10, 1925 to Ernest and Etta (Wieranga) Hopf. He grew up in Turner County and attended rural grade school, graduating from Freeman High School in 1943. After graduation he started farming with his father. On February 26, 1948 he was united in marriage to Sophia DeBoer at Lennox. They farmed near Freeman, Hurley, and Viborg where they retired. He acquired a private pilots license and enjoyed flying and built his own plane and flew it. He was a member of the Harmony Presbyterian Church where he taught Sunday school for a number of years. He also served on the school board. His wife Sophia died in 2006. Grateful for having shared his life are his 3 sons, Larry (Jill), Marion, Jim, Menno, and Don (Dianne), Yankton; 8 grandchildren, Nathan, Kim, Jennifer, Melissa, Heidi, Jessica, Amy, and Carrie; 3 step grandchildren, Travis, Trent, and Starr; 4 great grandchildren, Dustin, Jordan, Jayden, and Lauralea; and 6 step great grandchildren, Nicholas, Rebecca, Hannah, Logan, Zander, and Mallory; a sister, Belva (Orville) Johnson, Madison; and a brother, Marvin (Dolly) Hopf, Madison. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Sophia, daughter-in-law, Cindy, and a great grandson, baby Nathan.
