Edith Gerdes, 99, died Saturday, August 22, 2009 at her home. Funeral services will be at 1:30pm Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at the First Presbyterian Church, Parker with burial in Rosehill Cemetery, Parker. Visitation will begin at noon Monday at the Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home, Parker with a Prayer Service at 7:30pm Monday evening. Edith Irene Davis was born on February 17, 1910 on a farm near Parker to Howell and Emma (Gould) Davis. She grew up there and attended the rural school and graduated from Parker High School in 1928. She married Melvin Gerdes on August 23, 1934 at Canton, SD. They lived in Parker and she was employed at the Hilltop Nursing Home for 30 years as a nurses aid. Her husband Melvin died on May 15, 1961. Edith was a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed doing yard work, gardening, and caring for her family. Grateful for having shared her life are two children, Marjorie Kadinger, Sioux Falls and Merlin “Mick” Gerdes, Parker; two grandsons, Joesph Kadinger, Jr, Sioux Falls and Chad (Karen) Gerdes, Madison, SD. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sons Robert, and two brothers, Ernest and Marvin Davis.
