Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30am Monday, October 2, 2017 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Marion. A Scripture Service will be said at 3:00pm Sunday at the Tieszen Home Chapel. Arrangements by Hofmeister Jones Funeral Home. Dorothy was born Feb 17, 1923 to Charles and Marcella (Devine) Splonskowski in the farm house near Marion SD. She lived most of her life in the Marion vicinity. She received her early education at St. Mary’s School (until 6th grade) in Marion and Wayside District #11. She graduated from St Mary’s High School in Eugene, Oregon. She attended Notre Dame Jr. College in Mitchell and received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Sioux Falls College. She had the privilege of teaching 28 years in one-room country schools, Monroe Elementary, and the last 17 years in the Marion Elementary School System from which she retired in 1985. She enjoyed her volunteer work; including the Tieszen Memorial Home Auxiliary and Meals on Wheels. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Marion, and the St. Mary’s Altar Society, and the Senior Citizens’ Center. On August 1, 1943 Dorothy married Alfred Boldt at Yuma, Arizona. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Ronald who died in infancy, and her husband Alfred. Also preceding her death were her sisters (and their husbands) Esther (Lucious) Arneson, Evelyn (Donald) Bohm, Audry (Woodrow) Poppe, brothers (and their wives) Alphonse (Delsie) and Marvin (Lillian), brother-in-laws; Donald Harris, Leonard Ground. Cherishing her memory are her three sons, Gordon and Jerald, Marion SD, Sidney, Brandon, one daughter Nadine and husband Brian Dormaier, Sioux Falls, two grandsons, Jeremy Langrock and wife Meta (and one great-granddaughter Valora), and Tylar Dormaier, and one granddaughter Amanda Langrock (and three great grandsons Collin, Nolen, and Seth), and also two sisters, Mary Ground and Clarice Tebbe. This was written by Dorothy quite some time ago, then recently updated by family. Additions: In 5th grade at age 9, Dorothy and only one other were in that grade, so they were put into 6th grade instead. She was a freshman at Marion High School in 1936, before going to Oregon to take care of her grandmother. She graduated high school at the age of 16 and was the valedictorian of her class in Oregon. Even though she earned a scholarship to college in Portland OR, she returned to SD to attend college in Mitchell. Her infant son died of spina bifida and was buried in Arizona. She was a devoted teacher, always caring about children. Dorothy spent 73 years married to Alfred. Their marriage has been a great example and inspiration to many family and friends. Their love for each other and their great Faith is an example to many.
