William W. Weegar, 79 of Parker and Hurley, died Monday, December 4, 2017 at Wakonda Heritage Manor. Funeral services will be at 11:00am Thursday, December 7, 2017 at the Community Building, Parker with burial with full military honors at Rosehill Cemetery, Parker. Visitation will begin at 6:00pm Wednesday at the Hofmeister Jones Funeral Home, Parker with a Masonic Prayer Service at 7:00pm. William (Bill) Warren Weegar was born on July 2, 1938, at Jefferson, SD, to Orval Jacob and Leona (Schaefer) Weegar. They lived in the Monroe and Parker area where he attended country school and helped on the family farm. He work with his brother Keith for their uncle George Schaefer before enlisting in the United States Air Force on August 3, 1956. On February 22, 1962, he was united in marriage to Wilma Nell Carter at Cannon County, TN. Bill and Nell were stationed at several US Air Force bases during his career. Bill was a cook in the Air Force, and held the record for the best flight kitchen several times. After 20 years and 28 days, he retired with his Honorable Discharge on August 19, 1976. Bill stood faithfully by Nell's side until she passed away in 1978. Bill worked for the Turner County Highway Department. He married Dianna Mae Ihnen on June 21, 1979, and to this union came Billy Jo. They lived on an acreage on the southwest edge of Parker, SD. Bill loved horses and encouraged Billy to rodeo. He worked for Farmers Oil Coop in Chancellor, SD, until his retirement. Bill also drove semi for a few local farmers. In 2003, Bill moved to an acreage west of Hurley. He put up many miles of road ditches for many years, and taught Billy to do the same. He was a member of the Chancellor American Legion Post 283 for 25 years, and the Parker VFW Post 2821. He was a 30 year member of the Masonic Lodge. He was a longtime member of the Parker Saddle Club. Grateful for having shared his life are his son Billy (Rebecca) of Viborg; two granddaughters Bailey and Brittany of Viborg; two nephews, Patrick (Patsy) of Mankato, MN, and Chris (Megan) Stafford of Aurora, CO, and the Carter Family. He was proceeded in death by his parents, his wife Nell, his brothers Lee, Keith and Orval, his sister Keo Rose, his nephew Michael, and his sister-in-law Jeanette.
