Geneva Danielsen

Geneva Danielsen, 93, formerly of Viborg, SD died peacefully at The Centerville Care and Rehab Center on Sunday December 24. Funeral services are 11:00am Thursday, December 28, 2017 at Spring Valley Lutheran Church, rural Viborg with burial at the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 pm Wednesday evening at the Hofmeister Jones Funeral Chapel, Viborg. Geneva was born at her parent’s, Tom and Maggie (Edelman) Oswald home on February 24, 1924. Geneva graduated from Irene High School and Freeman Junior College. She taught one year at rural Wittenberg School District, northwest of Olivet, SD. She taught all eight grades (13 students). On May 24, 1943 she married Harland Danielsen at Hartington, Nebraska while Harland was home on a short furlough from the US Army. She accompanied Harland to many Army bases in continental US. Their oldest son Harland C was born in Alabama. When Harland was discharged from the Army in 1945 they made their home on a farm west of Viborg, SD. In May of 1982 they moved to their home in Viborg. They resided there until March of 2012 when they entered the Centerville Care and Rehab Center. Harland passed away in January of 2014. She continued to live at the Center receiving excellent care and making many new and wonderful friends while living an active life until the time of her death. Geneva was a devoted farm wife and mother of four children. She was an active member of Spring Valley Lutheran Church. When they moved to the city she babysat and worked and volunteered at Pioneer Memorial. She and Harland were able to travel many places including London to visit their granddaughter. She will be remembered as a lady who was great at sending greeting cards. Geneva was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a grandson Eric Danielsen, a brother Walter, and a sister Gladys. Geneva is survived by her children Harland C. of Mesa, AZ, Gene (Karen) of Salem, Sharlen (Ray) Krause of Viborg, and Glen (Kathy) of Viborg; grandchildren Harland A., Bryan, Jeff, Julie, Angela, Michael, Nancy, Daniel, Robert, Kevin, Kasey, Lindsey, Libby and Dalton; several great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren; a brother Bob (Annie) Oswald of Huron and many other relatives and friends.
