Hazel Christensen, 68, died Sunday, November 8, 2009 at the Avera Doughtery Hospice, Sioux Falls. Funeral service will be at 11:00am Thursday, November 12, 2009 at the United Methodist Church, Parker with private family burial to precede services at Rosehill Cemetery, Parker. Visitation will begin at noon Wednesday at Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home, Parker with family present from 6-8:00pm. Hazel LaVon Thompson was born on December 22, 1940 at Chester to Thomas and Florence (Jensen) Thompson. She attended country grade school, graduated from Colman High School, and attended business college in Huron. On October 18, 1962 she was united in marriage to Eugene D. Christensen at Colman. The lived in Parker where they raised their 3 sons, David, Scott, and Mark. She was a member of the Parker United Methodist Church where she served on many committees, her favorite of which was financial secretary. During her lifetime she held several jobs which included being a bank teller/bookkeeper, legal secretary, abstracter and held her abstracter’s license, and a medical secretary/receptionist before her retirement in 2005. Her husband Eugene died in 2001. Grateful for having share her life are her children, David and his wife Tinya, Sussex, WI, Scott and his wife Jennifer, Sioux Falls, and Mark and his wife Shelli, Parker; 5 grandchildren, Jared, Parker, Elizabeth, Rylie, and Trey; a brother, Merlin and his wife Shirley Thompson, Little River, TX; and 4 sisters, Carol and her husband Robert Nangle, Pipestone, MN, Glenda and her husband Blayne Woodward, Brandon, Twila and her husband Russ Spader, Marysville, WA, and Jan and her husband Terry Polsfuss, Clear Lake, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Eugene, and 2 sisters, Orlee and Lorene. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or the Parker United Methodist Church.
