Grace Mammenga, 88, died Thursday, January 28, 2010 at Sanford USD Medical Center, Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be at 10:30am Monday, February 1, 2010 at First Reformed Church in Monroe with burial in the Monroe Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-3:00pm Sunday at the Tieszen Memorial Home Chapel , Marion with a Prayer Service at 7:00pm Sunday evening at Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home, Parker. Grace M. Viet was born on December 9, 1921 near Monroe to John J. and Tillie (Wieman) Viet. After graduating from Monroe High School she was united in marriage to Jake Mammenga on August 22, 1940 at Monroe. They farmed in the Monroe and Canistota area, lived near Chancellor before moving into Canistota where she worked at the nursing home for 20 years, retiring in 1995. She also had been employed with Dakota Industries. She was a member of First Reformed Church, Monroe. She enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren, doing hand work making afghans, crocheting, and embroidery. Grateful for having shared her life are a son, Maurice, Sioux Falls; a daughter, Geraldine (Walter) Lauck, Mitchell; 8 grandchildren, Sharon, Norman, Lauri, Mary, Julie, Mark, John, and kristina; several great grandchildren; a brother, Harold (Wilma) Viet, Marion; a sister-in-law, Marcella Viet, Sioux Falls; and all her friends and family at the Tieszen Memorial Home. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jake in 1978, a son Orville, and a brother Elmer.
