Joyce A. Jensen, 92 of Viborg died Saturday, November 3, 2018 at the Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home, Viborg. Funeral services will be at 2:00pm Friday, November 9, 2018 at Spring Valley Lutheran Church, rural Viborg with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7pm Thursday evening at the church with a Prayer Service at 7:00pm. Arrangements by Hofmeister Jones Funeral Home.
Joyce Arduth Jensen was born on November 6, 1925 in Yankton, SD to Olaf and Margaret (Teska) Nielson. She grew up in the Midway and Utica area. Joyce attended Anderson School #52, in Irene, and graduating from Yankton High School in 1943. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Church. On January 18, 1944 he was united in marriage to Lemoine Jensen at Bethlehem Lutheran Parsonage at Midway. To this union six children were born. They farmed in the Turkey Ridge area and then moved to the Center Point area west of Viborg. They moved into Viborg in 1975 where she worked as a school cook and later at Pioneer Memorial. She enjoyed baking and decorating special occasion cakes. Joyce also enjoyed sewing, knitting, and quilting, having made hundreds of dish cloths and quilts for all her family members. She also loved keeping up with the family’s history and her picture albums. She and Lemoine loved to dance, a trait which was passed to many of the family members. She and Lemoine were long time members of the Spring Valley Lutheran Church. Lemoine died on October 1, 2017.
Grateful for having shared his life are her children; Elaine Lee, Freeman, Leone (LeRoy) Brown, Webster, Carol (Doug) Flyger, Sioux Falls, Lyle (Ramona) Jensen, Hesston, KS, Patty Olesen, Freeman, and Ordell (Julie) Jensen, Viborg; 17 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 8 great great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren on the way; sister in law Joan Nielson and a host of very special nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lemoine, son in law Ralend Lee, grandson Kyle Lee, sister Olive and brother-in-law Ralph Learing, brothers and sisters-in-law Orlyn and Arlene Nielson, Jim and Irene Nielson, Roger and Phyllis Nielson, Leland Nielson, Luther Nielson, and in-laws Murrel and Vicki Jensen.
