Robert "Bob" Zimmer

Robert L. Zimmer, 75, died Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls. Funeral mass will be at 10:30m Saturday, March 13, 2010 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Montrose with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 9-5:00pm at Kinzley Funeral Home, Salem with a Rosary to be said at the church at 7:00pm Friday evening with a Scripture service at 7:15pm. Arrangements by Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home, Parker. Robert Lee Zimmer was born on May 7, 1934 at Montrose to Lawrence and Iva (McAndrews) Zimmer. After graduating from Montrose High School he served in the US Army. He farmed near Montrose and was an insurance agent for the Humboldt Farm Mutual Insurance for 25 years and was on the board of directors for 30 years. On June 29, 1991 he was united in marriage to Marilyn Spade Lindstrom at Montrose. They enjoyed camping and fishing with family. They moved into Montrose in 1992. Bob was a very gifted vocal soloist for many weddings, funerals, and other special occasions in the area. He also played baseball for many years, enjoyed playing cards, and coming into town for coffee. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Marilyn; 4 step-children, Jeff Lindstrom, Sioux Falls, Tammy (David) DeJong, Rapid City, Gary (Tori) Lindstrom, Montrose, and Julie (Kent) DeJong, Lennox; 8 step grandchildren and a step great granddaughter; a brother Jack Zimmer, Bloomington; a sister Eloise Jones, Parker; a sister-in-law, Audrey (Marvin) Meyer, Silt, CO; and 3 nephews, Larry (Connie) Zimmer, Montrose, Richard (Christine) Jones, Sioux Falls, and James (Lori) Jones, Parker. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Dick, and a nephew Michael.
