James “Jim” Dykshorn, 68 of Freeman, died Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Memorial services will be at 1:00pm Saturday, January 19, 2019 at the Hofmeister Jones Funeral Home, Parker with burial at the Rosehill Cemetery, Parker.
James Lynn Dykshorn was born on July 14, 1950 at Mitchell, SD to Andrew and Irene (Zuver) Hohn. At the age of 6 he was adopted by Katie and Charles Dykshorn along with two of his brothers. They lived on a farm near Harrison where he attended school and in Corsica. He was united in marriage to Twila Jones on June 22, 1973 at Stickney. He had attended the culinary academy at Mitchell Technical Institute and later Iowa Lakes Community College, Emmetsburg, Iowa for power equipment technology. In 1991 he moved to Parker where he lived for several years before moving near Salem and for the past number of years he has lived in Freeman. Over the years he has been employed as a baker, small engine repair technician, and as a truck driver.
Grateful for having shared his life are his children Lynnette (Dave) Smith, Valley Springs, Jeanette (Cody Stephens) Ross, Bridgewater, Thomas (Susan) Dykshorn, Sioux City, IA, and Jamie Joiner, Freeman; 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; a brother Andrew (Marilyn) Dykshorn, Parker; a sister Mary Mahoney, Parker; and a special friend Elizabeth Schmidt and her son Jesse, Freeman. He was preceded in death by his parents and his adopted parents, wife Twila in 2006, a daughter LaPrina, brothers Edward and Richard, and sisters Patricia and Barbara in infancy.
