Jay Sorensen, 61 passed away January 17th, 2019 at Sanford's Ava's Hospice House, Sioux Falls, SD. Memorial services will be at 1:00pm Monday, January 21, 2019 at Hofmeister Jones Funeral Home, Parker with burial in the Hurley Cemetery.
Jay Allen Sorensen was born May 26, 1957 to Ray and Shirley (Mahoney) Sorensen Schallenkamp. He lived with his family on the family farm near Hurley, SD and graduated from Hurley High School. Jay was burned badly in 1966 and overcoming all odds went on to work many jobs. He was a "Jack of all trades" becoming an inventor and master electrician.
On December 31, 1994 he married Denise Grubb and they raised her two children and four grandchildren.
Left to mourn his passing are his mother, Shirley Schallenkamp, four brothers, Larry (Bonnie) of Lennox, SD; Dale (Connie) of Federal Heights, CO; Randy (Ruth) of Carmel, IN; and Steve (Tina) of Frankfort, IL.; a step daughter, Summer Grubb of Parump, AZ. a stepson, Shane (Tamara) Grubb of Lake Havasu City, AZ; four step grandchildren, Alec, Andrew, Adynn and Alicia of Lake Havasu City, AZ, 2 nephews, Justin and Jason Sorensen; 8 nieces, Lisa Friese, Jennifer (Josh) Ross, Megan, Natalie, Rachel, Carly, Amanda and Olivia Sorensen, 7 great nieces and nephews and a host of cousins and friends.
Jay was preceded in death by his wife, Denise, his father, Ray Sorensen, grandparents, Harvey and Edna Sorensen and Herbert and Gertie Mahoney, a niece, Shawna Sorensen and a great nephew, Daxter Ross.
