Evelyn L. Sherard

Evelyn L. Sherard, 101 and formerly of Hurley, SD died Sunday, February 17, 2019 at the Edgewood Vista Memory Care Unit, Sioux Falls. Funeral service will be at 11:00am Friday, February 22, 2019 at Heritage Funeral Home, 57th and Minnesota Avenue in Sioux Falls. Visitation will be from 6-8pm Thursday evening at Heritage. Burial will be at the Hurley City Cemetery. Evelyn Louise Peterson Sherard was born on January 25, 1918 near Hurley, SD to Peter and Ella (Eckhoff) Peterson. After graduating from Hurley High School she was united in marriage to Gifford C. Sherard on May 12, 1941 at Sioux Falls, SD. During WW II they lived in Los Angeles, CA where Giff worked in the shipyards. After the war they moved back to Hurley where they farmed and operated an electrical business. In 1979 they moved to Fresno, CA for four years and in 1983 moved to Sioux Falls. She was a member for over 50 years of the Hurley United Methodist Church and the Order of Easter Star. Grateful for having shared her life are her daughter Trisha Jacobson, Sioux Falls; a daughter in law, Bonnie Sherard, Fresno, CA; 2 granddaughers, Tracey (Bill), Ventura, CA and Jackie (Scott), Fresno, CA; 3 step grandchildren, James, Sioux Falls, Bill (Jo), Carver, MN and Julie (Kevin), Sioux Falls; 5 great grandchildren, 6 step great grandchildren, and a step great great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband Giff in 1988, a son Dennis, a son in law Clinton, a sister Ilene, and 3 brothers, Leland, Merle, and Peter in infancy.
