Richard H. "Junior" Jensen

Richard H. Jensen, 82, died Monday, May 24, 2010 at the Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home, Viborg. Funeral services will be at 10:30am Thursday, May 27, 2010 at the United Methodist Church, Hurley with burial with military honors at the Hurley Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon Wednesday at the Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Chapel, Hurley with family present from 6-8:00pm. Richard Howard Jensen was born on July 7, 1927 at Hurley, SD to Richard S. and Esther M. (Nealson) Jensen. After graduating from Hurley High School in 1945 he served in the US Navy at the end of WW II. On March 28, 1947 he was united in marriage to Phyllis Bishop at Hurley. He farmed at Hurley his entire life. He was a coin collector, lifetime active member of the Hurley United Methodist Church, member of the American Legion Post 21, Joppa Masonic Lodge #120, Gideon Society, former member of Hurley School Board, and Turner County Fair Board. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Phyllis; 5 children, Richard “Rick” (Sue) Jensen, Hurley, Susan (Steven) Stoneback, Pierre, Alan (Phyllis) Jensen, Colorado Springs, CO, Philip (Sharon) Jensen, Sioux Falls, and Gwenneth (friend David Gordon) Jensen, Hurley; 8 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Russell Jensen, Phoenix, AZ, and Dr. Robert Jensen, Ft. Wayne, IN; and a sister Rosalie Brenna, Minneapolis, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Darlene. Memorials maybe directed to the Gideons Society.
