Lloyd Ebeling, 88, died Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at the Tieszen Memorial Home, Marion. Funeral services will be at 10:30am Friday, July 2, 2010 at First Reformed Church, Monroe with burial in the Monroe Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday with the family present from 7-8:30pm at the Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Chapel, Marion with a Prayer Service at 7:30pm. Lloyd Ebeling was born on December 15, 1921 at Hitchcock, SD to John and Minnie (Klinger) Ebeling. In March of 1927 he moved with his family to a farm three miles north of Monroe. Here Lloyd attended a rural country school. In 1936 the Ebeling family moved to the homestead farm ¼ miles west of Monroe. Lloyd graduated from Monroe High School in 1939. From 1939-1942 he attended both Eastern Normal School in Madison and South Dakota State College in Brookings. On November 9, 1942 he was united in marriage to Alvina Arends at Monroe. They lived and farmed their entire life on the family farm ¼ mile west of Monroe. A son LeRoy was born in 1943. Lloyd served on the Monroe School board from 1949-1962. He was an active member of the First Reformed Church where he served as both Elder and Deacon. He and Alvina served as custodians of the First Reformed Church for many years. Lloyd sang with the Men’s Quartet since 1939. In January of 2007 Alvina and Lloyd moved into the Canistota Good Samaritan Home. Alvina and Lloyd were married for 65 years until her death in February of 2008. Lloyd moved to the Tieszen Memorial Home in Marion where he lived until his death on June 29, 2010. Grateful for having shared his life are his son LeRoy and wife Lois, Monroe; 3 grandchildren, Jacqueline (Curt) Lukes, Parker, Karen (Chris) Giles, Madison, and John (Sarah) Ebeling, Monroe; 10 great grandchildren, Laura (Tyler) Streff, Kyle and Kaitlin Lukes, Jacob, Joshua, Jessica and Jennifer Giles, and Jason, Annie and Emily Ebeling; and a sister Lenore (Earl) Parry, Sioux Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Alvina in 2008, and a grandchild, Catherine.
