Al Luke, 89, died Friday, October 15, 2010 at the Tieszen Memorial Home, Marion. Funeral mass will be at 10:30am Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at the St. Mary Catholic Church, Marion with burial with full military honors in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at the Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Chapel, Marion with a Scripture Service/Rosary to be said at the church Monday evening at 7:30pm. Al P. Luke was born on March 25, 1921 at Marion to William and Elizabeth (Lambertz) Luke. He grew up at Marion where he attended the St. Mary Catholic School. He served in the US Army during WW II in the European Theatre in Italy. On November 17, 1953 he was united in marriage to Phyllis Plucker at Parker. They lived in Marion where he owned and operated Luke Bros. Construction with his brother Kenneth for many years, retiring in 1984. After retirement he bought repairable cars and resold them. He also worked on several HUD homes and enjoyed woodworking and attending their grandchildren’s sporting events and activities. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and a member of the VFW and Legion. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Phyllis, 2 sons, Maurice, Sioux Falls, and Terry, Humboldt; 2 daughters, Lunette Pearson, Sioux Falls, and Kathy Rand, Parker; 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; and a sister, Eleanor Schmitten, Canistota. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Joanne Leloux, and 8 brothers and sisters.
