Deloris Flynn

September 30, 1927 — October 28, 2010

DeLoris (Rapp) Flynn, 83, died peacefully on Thursday, October 28, 2010 at the Regency Square Nursing Home in South Sioux City, Nebraska. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00am Monday, November 1, 2010 at St. Christina Catholic Church in Parker, SD with burial in the church cemetery. Memorials can be sent to Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home, 130 E. 2nd St, Parker, SD, 57053. DeLoris, daughter of Earl and Madeline Rapp, was born September 30, 1927 in Glendive, where she lived through the 5th Grade. She moved numerous times throughout her childhood living in Chamberlain, SD, Akron, IA, Laverne, MN, and her 8th grade year moved to her lifelong home in Parker, S.D. Deloris attended the Beauty Academy in Sioux Falls after high school and at age 19 she married LaVerne Flynn (1947) after he returned from the Navy in WWII. To this union eight children were born. DeLoris worked part-time out of her home as a beautician when her children were young and later worked night shifts in the Parker Nursing home…and would get home in time to make smiley face pancakes for breakfast. She later worked at the local grocery store, a job conducive to her love for cooking. DeLoris was a lifelong member at Saint Christina Catholic Church in Parker, S.D. attending mass nearly every day. She took pride in her children and grandchildren and loved watching them in many years of sporting events and activities. She took time to write letters each week to her children and family who lived farther away. She was an avid reader, a wonderful cook, and enjoyed entertaining guests. Her door was always open for others to pop in for a meal, pie or coffee. DeLoris mothered with unconditional love and encouraged her children in any thing they chose to do. She was very proud they all graduated from college. DeLoris also loved the holidays and no matter how busy, she had her home decorated and had food for many. After an injury, DeLoris moved to be close to family in South Sioux City, NE in March of 2000. She enjoyed the Assisted Care at Regency Square and made many friends. She also enjoyed attending local events and being able to see family nearly every day. She eventually moved to the nursing home side for more assistance. She was preceded in death by her youngest daughter Laurie at birth in 1968, her husband LaVerne Flynn in 1988, her son Michael Flynn in 2003, and her son Jerry Flynn in May 2010. DeLoris is survived by her loving children and their families including 22 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren: Ron and Vicki Flynn of Essex, Iowa and their children: Laurie Larson of Vermillion and her children Mariah, Kyle and Carter. Kyle and Becky Jensen of Meckling, S.D. and their children Jake, Brooke and Luke. Joe and Val Flynn of Temple, TX and their son Traysen.
