Luke Densel Hansen, age 7 years, 10 months, was called to join God’s team of angels on November 24, 2010. For eight months, he heroically endured treatments for a brain stem tumor. Luke’s unwavering enthusiasm and ambition impacted the lives of many, teaching us all valuable lessons about strength, determination, and perseverance. Although we will miss him dearly, especially his infectious smile and contagious attitude, he will remain forever in our hearts. Luke was born on January 22, 2003, in Sioux Falls. He grew up in Hurley, SD, where he was currently in the second grade and a member of Bethany Lutheran Church. His teachers, classmates, and friends will cherish their memories of his vigorous energy and compassionate spirit. A gifted athlete, Luke had a passion for sports of any kind. His favorite teams included the Twins, the Vikings and the Duke Blue Devils, although his true role models were the athletes from Hurley and Viborg, whom he deeply admired. Blessed to share his life are his parents: Bill and Barb; his siblings: Kristian (Josiah) Ellendorf, Jasmyn, Logan and Tori; his grandparents: Virgil and Millie Hansen and Clifford and Jean Kinsley; his great-grandmothers: Julia Broecher and Norma Kinsley; thirteen aunts and uncles and sixteen cousins. He was also anxiously awaiting the arrival of his niece. Luke will be missed by a multitude of friends and family along with the proud members of TEAM LUKE. A celebration of Luke’s life will be held in the Hurley School gymnasium on Saturday, November 27, 2010, at 1:00 pm with burial to follow in the Hurley Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday November 26th from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Bethany Lutheran Church in Hurley.
