Clarence H. Engbrecht
Clarence Engbrecht, 90 died Saturday, March 24, 2018 at the Oakview Terrace in Freeman. Funeral services will be at 10:30am Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at the Bethesda Church, rural Marion with burial at the West Vermillion Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be from 5-7pm Tuesday at the Hofmeister Jones Funeral Chapel in Marion.
Clarence H. Engbrecht was born on a farm near Dolton, SD on December 8, 1927 to John H and Annie (Willems) Engbrecht, spending his entire life in the Marion Community. He attended elementary school in Dolton and graduated from Marion High School. On November 14, 1948 he was united in marriage to Violet “Vi” Tieszen, to this union five children were born, Carol, Diane, Curtis, Dawn, and Keith. They made their home on a farm near Marion, retiring in 1995 but remaining on the farm.
Clarence spent his entire life farming. He managed the Marion Bowlway Lanes for several years. He was baptized and joined the Bethesda Church, a 40 year member of the Elks Lodge #994 of Yankton, and enjoyed hunting, horseshoes, bowling, and fishing with his sons.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Violet “Vi”; 5 children, Carol Johansen, Mountain Home, AR, Diane, Fort Smith, AR, Curtis (Sharon), Sioux Falls, Dawn (Richard) Becker, Canistota, and Keith (Diane), Marion; 14 grandchildren and their spouses, 22 great grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, and 5 step great grandchildren; and 2 sisters in law, Darlene, Vermillion and Mary, Mitchell. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers John, Arthur, Virgil, and Alvin, sister Ardis, a grandchild Sonya Peters, and sons in law Les Yates and JD Johansen.
